I'm presuming that you are awaiting confirmation of a speaker from the pro-coke side, in order that it can be as informative as possible?

May i suggest Matt Bruton of YFG Maynooth

Cabhog this is not a debate, it is a meeting to organise the pro boycott campaign. Do you suggest that Joe Higgins addresses the meetings of the FF parliameentary party in the interests of balance?!

but not yet. The aim of this meeting is to build a coalition and give everyone who wants to help out in the campaign an opportunity to take part. In a referendum Campaign each side will get an allocation of funds from the SU. By having a formal coalition the resources will be allocated more efficiently and with an input from everyone involved.
Hopefully there will be many clubs and societies in the college prepared to back this campaign.

All the best with the campaign Maynooth,it can be a hard issue to deal with at times but raising awareness of Cokes crimes in Colombia is imperative if we are to do anything to help the people there.
All the best!

John Meehan is a member of the USFI, this organisation is in government in Brazil implementing savage cuts. In Limerick they have a councillor who when he was mayor shook the hand of Bill Clinton.

"John Meehan is a member of the USFI,"

Correct!

" this organisation is in government in Brazil implementing savage cuts."

This organisation in fact is under threat of expulsion by Lulas henchmen due to their opposition to the cutbacks. I doubt if you are unaware of this.

"In Limerick they have a councillor who when he was mayor shook the hand of Bill Clinton."

You are obviously referring to Joe Harrington. He has not been a councillor since 1999 and has not been a member of the USFI since he was expelled following the Clinton incident. Its worth mentioning however that Joe Harrington used to occasion to condemn Clintons policies. If he had simply boycotted the ceremony then he would not have had the chance to do this in the full light of the international media.

You missed a historic moment. Unless ICL stands for Irish Chemicals Ltd a 'spart' has just posted to indymedia.ie! Let the madness begin!!

Pat again tries to defend the indefendable. Shaking the hand of Bill Clinton and welcoming him to your city is disgusting for anyone on the left to do. Clinton bombed Afghanistan and lied on oath to the people of the USA. It is not right to say that someone 'should use the opportunity of shaking his hand to criticise him'. As Mayor not turning up and publicly criticising him is the way to go.

Pat, why do you always jump to defend bureaucrats and those drifting to the right. Just in the past few days you have defended a Tory USI officer and have said you would support TU Bureaucrat Cassells against a revolutionary in the european elections!

Pat don't rise to the troll

"This organisation in fact is under threat of expulsion by Lulas henchmen due to their opposition to the cutbacks."

I accept that organisations can support wider formations, join them , support them etc. I have no problem with the USFI supporting the PT so long as they are critical of Lula's drift to the right. And that they don NOT ENTER GOVERNMENT.

The USFI have taken seats at the cabinet table. No Socialist should be sitting down in a bourgeois government that presides over cuts etc. Socialists should take positions in Parliaments so that they can voice their concerns to workers from their position. Taking a place in government or voting for a government does nothing but discredit the USFI.

Pat blames Militant for the crimes of the Labour Party in the 70s and 80s. However Militant never took a seat in cabinet and always opposed coalition government. Pat attacks Militant for their entryism into Labour, but not the USFI. The USFI are taking seats in Lula's bourgeois cabinet for heaven's sake!

author by fkpublication date Tue Feb 03, 2004 15:56author address author phone

I don't see what pats critisisms of Militant have to do with this topic. Neither do I see what the record of the USFI has to do with this topic. The USFI nor the Militant were mentioned in the original post. This is trolling.

i was putting joe harringtons actions in context. joe obviously felt that he was best put forward anti imperialist politics by using the event as a platform to condemn clintons policies.

i was also correcting the errors made by the spart(?).

my feline friend "cat p" once again shows that he has the reasoning and analytical abilities of a 3 year old mule.

Pat, what did Boyd tell you about the dumping of Joan? And why won't you tell us.
Your not buying the 'she doesn't want to run' line?

I cannot tell. You must appreciate this like having the Third Secret of Fatima revealed to you by the Pope. If I squealed the puppies would come after my cat (Pushkin).

The meeting went very well, there was a good turnout and we would like to formally thank Gearoid O Loingsigh for his very valuable contribution to the meeting.
A Coalition has been formed consisting mainly of unafiliated individuals and we plan to move very quickly towards a referendum and a successful campaign.
