An Alliance for Choice meeting takes place in the Teachers’ Club on Saturday Next January 24 @ 11.00am. You can see below minutes of the last formal meeting held in 2003.

The issues raised may help you focus in on what can be done to kick off a plan of campaign in 2004.

AFC activists also met on Tuesday December 16 2003 in order to discuss strategy and future actions surrounding the case of a 14 year old girl who was in the care of the Midlands Health Board. Niav Keating and Rosanna Flynn spoke to a number of media outlets for the AFC on this issue.

Suggested agenda items include

Possible March 6th event to mark International Women’s Day on March 8th.

Sending lobbying material to the various EU health ministers in the months before the proposed protest in Cork...if possible coming from a number of sources...individuals and organisations attached to the AFC

Labour Party Policy Document

Agreed to work on an Alliance for Choice response to encourage a wider public debate – suggested that either *** or *** might do a brief introduction on the content at our next meeting.

Website :

Information on the 1995 Act – suggested that we write up material on why we disagree with it, and why we are making available some alternative information on : clinics, facilities in Britain and the European Continent, travel, where women can receive post-abortion counselling.

We need to consult the web host on this.

Possible European Union Health Meeting in Cork during 2004

Agreed to investigate helping Cork supporters organise events in Cork to coincide with any such meetings. The EU health ministers meeting will take place in Cork from 11 - 12 May 2004.

Possible Importation of Material from the USA :

This had been raised at a previous meeting. *** reported on direct contact with a supporter who works for the Planned Parenthood Federation in the USA -

Query :

”…..an activist friend who is working with an organization that would like to find out if it is possible to have RU 486 mailed to Ireland…...”

Answer :

Thanks for visiting Planned Parenthood online. I'm sorry for the delay in response, which is due to the large number of emails we receive every day. Unfortunately, that is not a service we provide. Medical abortions need to be supervised by a doctor or clinician. Again, thanks for visiting Planned Parenthood online. Finance :

*** agreed to contact ** And report to the next meeting.

AFC Postcards :

*** agreed to look up a suitable selection of misogynistic quotes from male TD’s on the abortion issue that might be used in an AFC propaganda campaign.
