Anti-War Activists blockade Shannon airport - over 100,000 troops have passed through Shannon so far this year, thousands of planes carrying weapons of war, with this Irish government cashing in to the tune of £14 Million in US revenues. GARDA Overtime bill for Shannon same period £1 Million.
All Busses and Cars were searched - The Irony of searching Peace protesters for weapons, while protecting American military hardware on its way to an unjust War.
Irelands Neutrality lies in tatters and the mutual defence clause in the EU Constitution may well put the final nail in the coffin of Irish Neutrality.
A Symbolic attempt was made to enter the airport but was repelled with massive and overwhelming force. A Few scuffles occurred when a police van tried to drive through the blockade, and again when the GARDA manhandled a pensioner in a wheelchair and a pregnant woman off an already blocked road. The final act of provocation came when at the end of the march when the protest was herded through a funnel of RIOT Cops in what can only be described as a blatant act of provocation (miles from the airport, at the end of the demo, only 200 meters from the carpark) the bloc held there form - and the Christmas fairies decorated there riot shields with shiny tat...
