End the Arms Trade -- DERRY 7th Jan 2004
FEIC Day of Witness: Call for solidarity and support
Wednesday 7th January 2004
Derry City Council Special Meeting on the Arms Trade
Guildhall Square, Derry
Earlier this year FEIC's ongoing campaign against the arms trade in Derry brought a welcome response from Derry City Council. FEIC's vigils outside the council's monthly meetings prompted the council to suspend standing orders to discuss the presence in Derry of Raytheon, the world's largest missile manufacturer. At that meeting, the Council agreed to hold a special council meeting to discuss the issue and invited FEIC and Raytheon to participate in that meeting. Raytheon have refused to take part, but the special council meeting will go ahead, on Wed January 7th next.
FEIC is planning a day of witness, to highlight the human and economic costs of the arms trade and invites activists and supporters to come to Derry for the day, to take part in the day long vigil and witness in Guildhall Square. We look forward to the peaceful solidarity and support of activists from all over Ireland and beyond on the day.
In the meantime, please write to Derry City councillors and urge them to support FEIC at this meeting. A full list of the names and contacts addresses for the councillors is available on http://www.derrycity.gov.uk/elected-members.htm
