category dublin | miscellaneous | event notice author Saturday October 18, 2003 19:13author by Latin American Solidarity Centre - lascauthor email lasc at iol dot ieauthor address 5, Merrion Row, Dublin 2author phone +353 1 676 0435 Report this post to the editors

Have fun, learn about Latin America... and win a prize!!!

On the 22nd October 2003, the annual Lasc Cuba Pub Quiz will take place at the Pub " Mother Redcaps", in Christ Church. Feel free to join and enjoy a great moment!

the 7th Cuba Pub Quizz is going to take place on October 22nd at
Mother Red Caps at half seven. It is organized by the Latin American
Solidarity Centre of Dublin (5 Merrion Row, Dublin 2, tel: 01
6760435, e mail lasc@iol.ie). The LASC is an initiative for
cultural promotion and campaigning solidarity with Latin
America. It works towards social justice in Latin America and
Ireland.

The Pub Quiz is not a fundraiser for Cuba. Rather, we are organising it
together with the Cuba Suppor Group. We do so every year. LASC is an
organisation that gets some activities funded by Trocaire and Ireland Aid.
There are other activities that are not funded by anyone so we raise our own
funds in order to continue to do them. For years this particular fundraising
event has been held in conjuction with the Cuba Support Group. Both
organisations share the profits 50/50.

Here is some info about LASC.

MISSION: LASC's mission is to challenge the current economic and social
injustices in Latin America and Ireland by engaging in public awareness
raising, education, information exchanges and campaigns in solidarity with
the people of Latin America.

The money raised by LASC will not be given to projects as charity money, but
it will be used on activities related to the aresas of Development
Education, Cultural Promotion and Campaigning Solidarity, linking Ireland
and Latin America.

Examples of LASC activities are:
Night Course on Latin American Issues
Enlace magazine
Public Talks and Thursday Night Talks
Cultural and development workshops
Networking with social movements in Latin America
Organising campaigns in consultation with Latin American partners working
for social justice
Engaging with the formal education sector through their Transition Year
programme
Etc.
