Further scientific evidence has emerged to suggest that the Earth?s atmosphere is 'saturated' with carbon dioxide, meaning that at higher levels the 'greenhouse' gas will not cause temperatures to rise.

This has been misnamed from the beginning. Based in west Cork among a handful of people (about a dozen) concerned with trees and ecology (and who are openly anti-political) there has been no connections made with community activists, trade unionists, socialists, anti-war activists, immigrants, etc. etc. They could at least have tried to broaden out before having the cheek to take the name 'Cork Social Forum'.

Yeah, funny crowd - Brian Crowley (the Fianna Fail MEP and staunch right winger) is on their emailing list. He's invited to meetings and sent minutes afterwards.

Anon & other nameless critics,

Can it be expected to see you at the Linc centre on Tuesday, with the possibility of having your criticism contribute to the development of the CSF… or maybe you could even claim the name for yourselves?

Dave is upset. I suppose these are things you'd rather not have publicly aired. That's understandable...from your point of view.

The begrudgers exist Dave and will always exist. Have to get used to them unfortuantely, especially on this site.

I hope all the various, different organizations in Cork have been contacted and encouraged to come along. There are directories you can get that give very good listings. The Irish Social Forum should have these. I had them myself before but Im after mis-laying them.

Good on ya for your work with the Cork Social Forum.

The potential these forums have across the planet is infinite, but will only garnish real success if they are as broad as possible and not dominated by any one group/grouping.

Is Brian Crowley on the email list? Does he get minutes? And why, if it is the case?

In answer to a few of these comments... ALL active groups in Cork county were contacted and invited to take part in the setup of CSF, including trade unions, refugee groups(who in fact already attend), political groups etc. Most of the groups highlighted as not being involved have found it difficult to attend meetings but do take part through the website and newswletter.
The aim has been to rotate venues around the county to enable more people to attend at least some of the meetings..hence tonights get-together in the city.
Since the nature of the social forum movement is democratic and respectful of diversity, all those who could be bothered to make the effort to keep in touch and express an interest were on the mailing list. Brian Crowley was on the list because he was curious, he isn't any longer and is off the list now.
It's early days for the CSF so no, we don't yet have any stunning political campaigns on the go.. we are however increasing support for existing campaigns locally and nationally, and are initiating anti-arms-trade actions.
We'd be only too glad to see anyone from any political group at the forum and to speed up our political activity. If you want to contribute to that then please make the effort and come to a meeting. If you can't get to the meetings then get in touch with us to host one in YOUR area. If you really can't spare the time or energy to do that then contribute your two-pennorth through the newsletter or website. Get yourself or your group on the mailing list..and please get the details right..groups like the socialist workers have given out non-functioning e-mail addresses, so with the best will in the world, we can't keep in touch with them.
If all that sounds too much like hard work and you'd rather stay at home and vote with your arse, please don't snipe at this "handful of west-corkers" just because we're getting off ours.
