Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Education Seán Crowe will attend a demonstration against the proposed cuts in childcare support for VTOS schemes organised by the Dublin City PP branch of the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) outside the Department of Education, Marlborough St at 3.00pm tomorrow.

Crowe to Attend TUI Protest Against VTOS Cuts - Calls on People to Show Support

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Education Seán Crowe will attend a demonstration against the proposed cuts in childcare support for VTOS schemes organised by the Dublin City PP branch of the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) outside the Department of Education, Marlborough St at 3.00pm tomorrow.

Calling for people to turn out in support the Dublin South-West TD said: "Hundreds of men and women across the country who had struggled to make ends meet in order to take up these VTOS courses were betrayed in the most arbitrary and cruel fashion by the Government’s announcement, a week from the beginning of classes, that they were withdrawing childcare support.

"These are people who were motivated enough and determined enough to build a future for their children by re-entering education. They should be applauded and supported, not abandoned. I have written to the Minister for Education and Science asking him how the decision to cut VTOS childcare support, depriving working class people of access to education compares, with his empty rhetoric when he called for the reintroduction of fees to enable working class people to go to third level.

"I am calling on people to turn out tomorrow to show their support at the protest organised by the TUI and show this Government the anger that exists in communities right across Dublin on this issue." ENDS

It looks like the anti-cut backs campaign has succeeded and childcare is back on. I was talking to someone in Galway about this just now, but the phone line was very bad so I couldn't have a proper conversation with her.

Has anyone else heard anything from any other place around the country (just in case this is a region specific change in policy)?
