Two Bin trucks successfully blockaded by residents in Finglas this morning

The Finglas Against the Bin Tax Campaign successfully blockaded two trucks this morning. The blockade lasted for an hour, with about 30 local residents taking part. The Council had been tipped off as to our whereabouts and there were some changes made to the route, but after finding the truck again another came and joined it, with the driver apparently wanting to show his support for the campaign. Overall the protest was very successful, with local residents, keen to show their opposition to the charge and the bin men and their shop steward, who was also present, being very supportive.

This has followed a number of meetings in the Finglas area, the last of which was attended by about 400 people. The feeling of residents is that they are not being listened to by local politicians and they want to take action. Although non collection has not yet been implemented in the area, all are aware that it is only a matter of time. Judging by the attendence and mood this morning, if non-collection does hit Finglas it is going to be met with overwhelming opposition.
