From Davy Carlin

Queens University and Management has bent over backwards to prevent the BAWM from having its meeting in the students union tonight at 7.30. And at very very late notice have eventually suceeded in blocking the BAWM from getting the room. So another room has been booked 2 minitues near by and yet another just in case.

Directions will be given on arrival, lets not forget that the leading Briitish army commander in Iraq during the war {shown again on TV last night} has very recently been invited to speak at Queens in a few months. Such actions by Queens will not prevent the will of those people whom may wish to oppose his arrival from doing so, in fact they will only strenghen it

What's BAWM?

though lots of other ideas did come to mind.
Probably better to presume since Davy is the Swimmie man from the north who posts their meetings, and remembering that the swimmies are anti-war, and stuff, that it is that.
Though as you can guess probably other sharp minds are thinking up acronym interpretations right now.

the college authorities only allow recognised societies book rooms. I presume it was booked by SWSS. Be careful when advertising the meeting! Remember in colleges the rooms are booked for college use!

Davy, use your head, be careful when booking rooms and advertising!

It's 'bomb' written phonetically as the Nordies would pronounce it. Great sense of humour up north, and they love their bawms.

College lefty I know that, but cheers for advice, although I presume those that booked the room should have been aware of that also. Orla BAWM stands for Belfast Anti War Movement of which I am also a member.

SWSS is a recognised society at QUB. However this is a political attempt to stop an anti-war meeting. The Students Union is now run by QUB management. Several excuses for not allowing the meeting to go ahead were used - eg 'controversial' meetings have to get the nod from the exec - even though NUS, USI and QUB exec have all affiliated to anti-war coalitions. In the end management said the union would be shut.

At the USI congress an anti war motion proposed by UCDSU and seconded by WITSU was not taken. The rightwingers in TCD and DIT rallied the right so that the motion would not be taken.

ah I meant other people with their sharp minds.
People like:
college lefty : Anonymous : Badman :prankster : Irony is dead : correction
and of course you Mr Semantic.
(and of course Davy): and all those unknown sharp minds who either didn't want to comment or at the last minute thought not to comment.
