IRISH ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT TO HOLD EYE-WITNESS REPORT FROM OCCUPIED IRAQ

The Waterford branch of the Irish Anti-War Movement are to hold a public meeting with an eye-witness report from occupied Iraq. Iraqi doctor, Nooh Al-Kaddo has been to Iraq three times since the end of the war and has witnessed first hands the devasation wrought by the war and the subsequent American military occupation of the country.

The meeting will take place in the Granville Hotel, the Quay, Waterford on Tuesday 9th September at 8.00p.m. All are invited to attend and hear Dr. Al-Kaddo's report from Iraq.

Doctor Al -Kaddo, who is also the executive director of the Islamic Cultural Institute in Dublin, will report on how the Iraqi people are still suffering from shortages of electricity and water and facing total disruption to their everyday lives with basic services such as health and education having collapsed. While the Iraqi people suffer from these shortages, the American administration in the country concentrates of selling off the Iraqi resources to multinational corporations and exploiting the country's natural resources for the benefit of western interests.

Instead of being welcomed as liberators, the US army now find themselves embroiled in a guerrilla war. There are daily mass protests throughout Iraq calling for democracy, human rights and an end to the American military occupation of the country.

In the west, the lies used by Blair, Bush and Ahern to justify the war are gradually being exposed and the true impetus for the invasion of Iraq becomes clearer everyday. Millions across the world realise that the war was about exerting American power in the region and controlling the lucrative oil resources in Iraq for the western multi-nationals.

Kieran Allen from the steering committee of the Irish Anti-War Movement will also speak at the meeting about the preparations for the international day of action against the occupation of Iraq and Palestine which will take place on Saturday 27th September. Millions of people are expected to march around the world with a major protest taking place in Dublin at 2.00p.m.

All are welcome to attend the meeting and get involved in building for the protests on September 27th. For more information, please contact 086-3274015 / royhassey@eircom.net

American occupation of Iraq is the rhetoric that spins from many lips - I assume everyone is aware of the fact that there are british troops occupying Iraq just like they continue to occupy the north if ireland also?

I suppose its nothing new for most of Ireland to remain silent about british occupation when Israeli occupation and american occupation are all that matters - I am both anti war and pro palestinian but most of all i am pro irish -

So i am just wondering since all these posters and do gooders are in the repulic of ireland where were you all when vbritish soldiers where raping and murdering on your own Island???

Suspiciously like extremist republicans who tried to co-opt the peace movement in shannon to demand that groups also join protests at British bases in the north.

For starts I'm pretty sure a sizeable chunk of the population of the north are kind of fond of the UK and it's army.

I'm not saying they're right, I'm just saying thats there opinion.

Forcing the antiwar movement to "speak" for your agenda is one of the reasons that the crowd of 100,000 on Feb 15th who were opposed to the war in Iraq, got dillusioned by politicans announcing that "they" spoke or arranged these masses. Its why Sept won't be nearly as big.

This are two different issues, and trying to railroad support for one, into your pet campaign will only weaken their campaign, and turn people away from both.

You want troops out of the north. Have your own shagging protest.

This is a meeting for Saddam supporters - for the people who tried to keep him in power.

Don't believe the hype kids, the truth is out there.
