Pickets outside ICTU Biennial Conference

About a dozen members of the Tralee Peace Group picketted Taoiseach Bertie Ahern as he arrived to address the biennial conference of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in Tralee, Co. Kerry this morning.

Earlier three motions calling for the strengthening of Irish neutrality were referred back to the Executive Committee of ICTU who will no doubt see to it that they never see the light of day again.

Congratulations to the pickets who give bertie a hot reception and proved that you can run but you cant hide.
The conference discussion on the motions was difficult, repeated attempts where made by the leadership to deal with the motions undemocraticaly. The motions themselves where a mixed bunch, one called for an end to netrality and support for the UN! It is my view that the leadership will come back with a position that calls for an end to irish neutrality.
A number of conference delegates joined the picket outside the conference.
