BRING BACK KEENO

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday May 24, 2002 21:51author by babsdebrawl

KEENO HAS BEEN IN THE IRELAND TEAM, LONGER THAN MICK MCCARTHY

BRING BACK KEENO, Roy kean, has been in the Ireland team longer than mick mccarthy, whose just another in a long line of crap english managers. Keeno has outlived klaus barbie, charlton and others, keeno has been with the Irish squad from the beginning, so he knows wat hes talking about. KEENO was merely standing up for players rights, becos KEENO as team captain had the welfare of all the Irish players at heart, and why cant a player disagree with their manager, the manager sits on a bench whilst the players are the ones running about on the pitch, doing all the work. Shame on the rest of the Irish squad for not standing behind Keeno, but thats capitalism for you, Keeno complained on behalf of his players, who've now been moved to a better less hazardous pitch, and becos Keeno has spoken out, hes been kicked out.

While I obviously don't know the details of the dispute between Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy, our chances in Japan/Korea have been reduced by his departure.

No way.

Keano thinks he is better than the rest. Hes the highest earning player on the team!!! his money makes him better than the team? then he should be expelled. The capitalist FAATCAT

First of all, I think you will find that the former Ireland team captain's name is spelt keane, not keen. Second, this dispute has as little to do with capitalism as is humanly possible. Keano is not a "capitalist fatcat" and he does not think his money makes him better than everyone else. He had concerns about perparations for the World Cup and he voiced them. Unfortunately, he voiced them in the wrong manner by allegedly calling the Ireland manager an "English cunt". He is one of the most talanted sportsmen in the world and deserves every penny he earns.

Contrary to the belief of some clinton, this is a
news website, not a platform for anti-capitalism,
so the article is valid.

I was referring to the statements:
"Shame on the rest of the Irish squad for not standing behind Keeno, but thats capitalism for you"
and
"Hes the highest earning player on the team!!! his money makes him better than the team? then he should be expelled. The capitalist FAATCAT"

It is these people who attempted to link the Keane saga with an anti-capitalist struggle. I was, infact, pointing out how ridiculous that was.

Roy Keane actually exposed the junket mentality of Irish society, in particular the fatcat attitude of the IFA, and the carelessness that has crept into professional soccer because of the amount of money players are paid. It was carelessness that cost United their title because several players under performed. Keane is a man with principles. He's not a socialist but neither is he a liberal. Modern soccer is full of liberals who are afraid to speak their mind. Keane has cost himself the glory of a world cup because he had a go at the IFA's methods and in turn this led to a slanging match with McCarthy. He attacked the wrong people. He should have had a go at the suits in the IFA. Keane demands high standards, which have much to do with his Cork background and if he hadn't been a soccer player he might have been a radical (perhaps he is). Problem is who will analyse this from a social perspective? No one I suspect.

i go to indymedia to read news that one can't find elsewhere.
i think it is a travisty that people are abusing this website to rant about some football player.
pakistan and india are on the verge of nuclear war and what was the top headline on skynews today?roy keane arriving back in cheshire of course.

If he was a "capitalist", surely he'd realise his advertising revenue would be damaged by departing the world cup? So perhaps he had valid reasons, albiet incorrectly voiced.

I wish to protest against the final elevation of sport, and professional soccer in particular, from inappropriate inclusion in press, radio and television news (even the 'qualiities' - RTE and the 'Irish Times')to the first, main and (oh so) dominant item!

Chomsky is correct on sport.

Roy Keane is a Fine Gael supporter, just to break
any spell you may have had about him being a working class hero. Have you seen his house on the TV!!!!!!!! Big difference from his origins in Mayfield Cork.

The Roy Keane story is of more relevance to the working men and women of Ireland than many of the issues raised on this site. That is of course unfortunate.

As a retired armchair anarchist it is funny to see how removed many on the so called left are from the daily concerns of workers.

Roy Keanes non-participation has taken the shine off the Irish escapade in the World Cup.

Yes it is now a game riddled by all of the worst facets of capitalism. But for 90 minutes it provides many (not all) with the best escapism available in their hum-drum lives.

Sack McCarthy!

To everybody who is crying the expulsion of Keane in Europe: You make me puke!!! This fellow is just a kid making caprices. He is earning a lot of money, as his friends though, to play with a fucking ball, appearing as a sandwichman (full of adds everywhere)...and everybody is speaking about him, making the headlines of the newspapers?!... what da fuck?! Football can be a hobby, nice to be seen on tv,...for some of you, but it' s still a LEISURE!! There are thousands of more important things happening in the world rather than give any interest to this bucko! As said before, all the medias were deversing on us this so horrible news, forgetting that there is a war starting between India and Pakistan, that Bush is still the president of the USA, that the extreme right wings are rising in Europe,.... Fucking hell lads, WAKE UP AND FIGHT!! It' s not him that is gonna change the world, or if it is we are really in the shit!! Stop football-fanatism and challenge the reality!! It' s maybe less fun for you, but at least you would have tried to escape the dreams they are implementing in your head!

Fuck da world cup - from a frenchy -
