Socialist Voice online

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday June 14, 2003 10:32author by John Doe

well nearly!

The latest issue of the Socialist Party paper, Socialist Voice, is now partially online.

And before any conspiracy folks out there jump up and down, this is not censorship or hiding something, it's just it takes me some time to get the articles online. The rest will follow over the weekend.

There are approx. another 12 articles to follow, including on the Iraq war, N Ireland, etc.

In his article on EvianMichael O'Brien could have mentioned the Police attack on peaceful demonstrators on the bridge. But instead he praises the restraint of the police and attacks the Black Bloc. At least he doesnt call them cop agents.

Magneto was it not the Swedish Social Democrats (your party)that gave flowers to the cops who shot live amo and injured protesters at Gothenburg as they returned to their barracks?

that shut him up

I am a member of the Irish Labour Party not of a Swedish Party. The fact remains that Amnesty International condemned the behaviour of the cops at Evian BUT Michael O'Brien of the SP praised the restraint of the cops.

Why dont you deal with that?

Are you or are you not a member of the same international as the Swedish party?

People should read the article. No praise is attributed to the cops. The point being made is that at Gothenburg and Genoa the capitalist establishment tried to smash the anti capitalist movement by repression and failed. In Geneva during the mass mobilization the state were nowhere to be seen. This is a retreat on their behalf and a victory for the movement.

Amnesty say different? Are you saying that Amnesty are lying?

author by Magnetopublication date Mon Jun 16, 2003 10:23author address author phone

As you well know its a very loose federation. The Irish Labour Party is not the Swedish Social Democratic Party. Only SP fools would try to claim that Labour is responsible for what a Swedish Party does.

The 'Socialist' Party have been claiming for the past week that the Black Bloc are infiltrated by cops. They say that this widely accepted as being true.

But when lampooning comments saying the same are put up about the SP they are deleted. Why? Surely either both sets of allegations should be deleted or both sets should be left up.

The SP have got the comments deleted by sending several emails to the editoral list threatening to sue indymedia. An example is included below.

Editors,

I wish to draw your attention to a comment on IMC Newswire that is libelous in my opinion. "Durutti" in a comment on the article "electronic voting" made accusations that the Socialist Party were involved in electoral fraud.

"SP Hackers
by Durutti Thu, Jun 12 2003, 2:38pm

The SP hacked the computers in Dublin North and almost got Clare Daly elected."

In this thread "Ray" also made similar accusations of electoral fraud and intimidation of polling clerks.

"I know someone who works in the counting centres
by Ray Thu, Jun 12 2003, 2:44pm

And he said that Joe Higgins only got elected in the first place because of SP ballot-stuffing. My source was threatened into silence, so I can't give any more details."

On the Newswire there have been threats against Socialist Party members. "Durutti" made the following remark in a comment to the article "SWP split over Direct Action":

"when the Black Bloc arrive then there will certainly be trouble. It wont be just restricted to your paper sellers..." (Fri, Jun 13 2003, 2:34pm)

I will say it again to the editors, these accusations are NOT satire, they are libelous comments that are published on a website that YOU are editors of.

I think it would be a good idea if you remove ALL comments and articles that may put the IMC in risk of legal action.

I have a copy of this communication on paper.

Yours Sincerely,

OisĖn Kelly,

There is no need for the police to infiltrate the sp as they openly inform the police on other protesters anyway as peter Hadden did in Belfast during the Anti War demonstrations.
