Army bomb disposal experts defused a device left outside a hard-line Republican office in west Belfast
A lunch box containing an explosive substance, with an alarm clock attached to it, was found outside the Republican Sinn Fein office on the Falls Road.
The device was also bound with tape.
Traffic was diverted between Broadway and Beechmount Avenue.
Police said a number of items were taken away for further examination.
Republican Sinn Fein is the political wing of the Continuity IRA.
