Sinn Fein, other public representatives, must act now

Garret O'Connor, from South Armagh, disappeared on Sunday last while on the way to sign for bail at Dundalk Garda Station. He is charged with RIRA membership. His father Mark says the Provisional IRA kidnapped him, and his life is in danger.

Garret O'Connor, from South Armagh, disappeared on Sunday last, May 11, while on the way to sign for bail at Dundalk Garda Station. He is charged with RIRA membership. His father Mark says the Provisional IRA kidnapped him, and his life is in danger.

Archbishop Seán Brady has called for his safe return. Other public representatives - especially people on the left - should do the same.

A particular responsibility falls on members and representatives of the Sinn Fein party, which has a large following in the area where Garret O'Connor disappeared.
