Haider Greeted By Lively Protest

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday April 11, 2003 11:04author by pat c

Despite many activists being kept out of TCD last night,Haider was greeted by an eclectic collection of the wretched of the Earth. Some managed to get inside but were ejected as soon as they raised any protest.

Some wanted to stop Haider from speaking, some were there to protest. But all made it clear that they found his views repugnant.

Security at TCD front gate was resticting entrance but some found other ways in. Inside we found everyones favourite Garda Inspector (the big ugly one) leading a band of the boys in blue & yellow.

Several attempts were made to rush the doors and 2 AFA members got in at one stage but were thrown out again. Others, already inside, including members of the ISN got ejected after raising points of order and attempting to make personal contact with Haider.

Several people, including myself, were person-handled by the cops but no one suffered real injuries and there were no arrests.

A noisy protest was kept up for 2 1/2 hours. Haider was aware of our presence at all times.

Ruari Quinn was also speaking at the meeting but members of Labour Youth were protesting outside.

Groups present at the Demo included: SF, ISN, AFA, ANL, SWP, SY, RAR, SA and Labour Youth.

Haider Disrupted at TCD
by Jurgen Fri, Apr 11 2003, 10:28am
The visit of Austrian closet Neo-Nazi, anti-semite and racist Haider to the gals and cads of the Phil in Trinners was greeted with a protest of about 100 anti-racist activists. Disgracefully, Ruairi Quinn of the Labour Party shared a platform with him. Is it now the policy of the Labour Party to share platforms with racists? As for the toy -town revolutionaries of the SWP they steadfastly refused to engage in any direct action, preferring to stand around chanting silly slogans, leaving the job of confronting Haider directly to members of Anti Facist Action, Irish Socialist Network and some Austrian anti-racists.

The SWP did attempt to get into the Phil debate, all of them obviously refused besides me as I somehow managed to join the phil at the start of the year. They'll be happy to know that the first debate I went to I was kicked out of. So toy town revolutionaries I think not. Those outside the building did attempt to gain access and inside when Haider began his speech I disrupted his speech and attempted to cause general chaos in the room. They didn't get me out cause I'm not so peaceful and eventually trinity security guard brought me out. Is that direct action enough from the SWP for you. I didn't see much from any other party or indiviual. There were two others ejected before me and some people just got up and left quietly when Haider got up, a sort of silent protest. So I think an apology is desrved or at least you need to shut the fuck up you stupid sectarian bastard!

Pat C and AFA. All makes sense. Sectarianism is a very hard thing to dispose of whether it is nationalist or politically motivated. Tiocfaidh ar la?
