Near riot forces peelers to retreat

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday April 08, 2003 18:22author by Rave against the war

As crowds stopped to watch PSNI peeler brutality, in Belfast city centre today, a near riot situation ensued with shoppers and peaceful protestors standing on the foot paths shouting 'SS PSNI', passing office workers also joined in the chant , disgusted at PSNI brutality.

Passing shopppers, pensioners and office workers were visibly shocked at the brutality of the PSNI towards peaceful sit down protestors. Onlookers and the passing crowds joined in choruses of SS PSNI, SS RUC. Peelers had to retreat after a large crowd of onlookers gathered and passing corner boys began to chuck beer cans at the peelers.

Thank u so much for providing the service that you do. It's at time like these that alternative media actually becomes the only media. When RTE decides not to cover the speedy erosion of any kind of rights in our fair land, by ignoring the pleas of peaceful protestors to be heard and by not protecting our brave young hopes for any kind of future. I cannot believe that they have censored peaceful Irish people being attacked by foreign fascists merely because they did not have any footage of violence by protestors. My faith in our media is erased completely. You would imagine that with journalists being wiped out at an astonishing rate in Iraq they would realise what's in store for them in our bright(read neon)future as the 52nd state.enough of my bullshit for more go to www.rte.ie and thank them for their complacency in the face of a 3rd world war!

This will all change as soon as Sinn Fein is on the police board. As soon as Catholics join the police force there will be no more police brutality. Just like the R.I.C. which was predominantly Catholic.

The chant rang out after the peelers retreated, 'Whose streets are these?', Reply 'OURS!!'

The only folks close to rioting were the police.

The first policing of those blockading the road challenging business as usual was by the SWP who called for people to leave the road and then abandone the resisters...leaving the scene with their megaphones etc. Telling people to go on home after the die in etc and waithuntil they are called upon again to serve as passive extras for the next SWP media stunt.

Proving once again this whole IAWM/ STWC is a huge marketting exercise for the SWP and they are not serious about resisting the war or supporting those who are.

People will draw the line in all sorts of places, not necessarily where I'dchoose but they have to be respected and supported. These young people lying on the road were disciplined and nonviolent....they deserve our support and solidarity

Or like our beloved Gardai in the "Free State". All cops everywhere are arms of the state and NOT, as some of our confused lefties think, workers in uniform.
When they're not rushing to the chipper (on overtime) with the sirens on they're beating kids for drinking or moonlighting as bouncers at nightclubs and lap dancing clubs where they get to kick the heads off half pissed teens.

Lies with people like Peter Hadden who becomes ballistic if there is any criticism of ICTU.

Youth against the war were also on the road, I don't know who the eejit with the megaphone was, telling everyone to disperse, he looked like a student wanker. I saw one member of the SP, you wouldn't like to meet in dark alley by yourself, little miss muffet, who looks like a bookish school teacher 'butter would'nt melt in my mouth' is really a notorious GBH felon and Ex holylands resident association vigalante.

Hello,

Can someone tell me where to find a guy with a megaphone to tell me what to do. I really hate having to decide for myself and it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Thanks.

[wink, wink]

Heard that it was SWP and SAW from West Belfast that were arrested

with your my dick is bigger than yours. Neither of the SP or SWP is homogenous, hard as the leadership might try. Of the people I recognised, they stayed on the footpath but I have no doubt that there were members (pardon the pun) sitting/standing on the road.
Congratulations to all those who went onto the road and faced off against the very intimidating hard men (with all the violent gear). The movement is about people not parties, take your bitching elsewhere and leave this space free for relevant debate.
