Sgt. Asan Akbar did what the Nuremberg trials suggest is an option for a soldier ordered to perform murderous illegal war crimes or “crimes against peace.” He not only refused to simply “follow orders” but directly opposed the orders.

31-year-old sargeant Asan Akbar of the 101st Airborne based at Camp Pennsylvania near the border of Iraq, is alleged to have thrown a grenade into a tent of his base commander Col. Frederick Hodges, wounding Hodges and several other officers of his unit. Asan is also alleged to have killed Capt. Christopher Scott Siefert with small arms fire and to have wounded several other soldiers as they tried to escape the tent.

Peace Activists hold this war to be illegal and that under the Nuremburg principles it is our duty to break the laws of our individual states, if necessary, to destroy weapons of mass destruction or anything to do with supporting the war. That is precisely what Asan did.

We ask for support for white nuns when they use the came defence .

Of course Sgt. Asan, whose slave name was Mark Fidel Kools will have military justice which is as much like justice as military music is like music. He has already been found guilty without investigation in a word. Treason.

Akbar says he committed these acts in protest against the war and/or to racism in the Army.

In the early 1960's Monroe County NAACP Vice President Robert Williams encouraged and actually organizing Blacks in North Carolina to fight the Ku Klux Klan with guns. Peace activists who had been with the Blacks up to this point would not agree. The same whites who thought fighting Nazis with guns was brave thought that the idea of “Blacks (fighting white racists) with guns” was abhorrent.

In Ireland some people find attacking a war plane with an axe abhorrent! We need to wake up and look at the reality of the medieval slaughter being carried out in our name and make appropriate responses. This in not a coffee morning!

Welcoming the Emperor with a tribute gift of our total abject surrender is not appropriate.
