(17:17) The High Court has fixed Thursday 3 April to hear an application by a retired Irish Army officer who wants to stop the Government allowing the use of Shannon Airport as a refuelling stop for aircraft carrying troops to Iraq.

Edward Horgan of Newtown, Castletroy in Limerick, a former Army Commandant, is challenging the legality and constitutionality of the Government's decision to provide facilities for US troops and military aircraft at Shannon.

His senior counsel, John Rogers, sought an early court hearing today.

He said Mr Horgan is concerned at the continued breaches of Ireland's duty as a neutral State not to permit the movement of troops or munitions across the territory.

The President of the High Court Mr Justice Finnegan fixed 3 April for the full hearing.
