thoughts from older folk on the streets of Barcelona

being out-takes of radio stuff interviews with tourists of age 50-75 from USA UK Australia Japan Italy France.

on the war.

USA- arrived this morning. from Kansas. lost on the ramblas. voted Republican. support Bush supported Vitnam.
"well we have to strive to be the number one one of the number one countries" baby bear.

"Democracy is about this, I support the President"
mammy bear.

"there is a group an alliance to do this it has to be done" daddy bear.

none of the bears had served in the armed forces.
they feel at risk from terrorist attack since Nine Eleven. they were unaware of a boycott of U.S. products. Daddy Bear is boycotting French produce. He will find his stay in Barcelona filled with purchases from French owned corporate interests. He might not have thought carefully about his boycott.

The Japenese.

couple mid forties. interviewed at the encampent by Belles Artes Filosfia and Literatura faculties at the seat of Catalan government.
the man spoke;
"Democracy is in danger." said three times.
"japenese people want peace, no war, no americans but japeneses government support WAshington"
"80% of japanese are opposed to the war".
"the constitution is being broken by the US"

Australian senior 75approx.
"i see a new world of state terrorism versus extremist terrorism". But war is neccesary, they should have done Saddam before. I've not seen protests in Australia."

this man followed us to heckle the Americans.
pro war. anti-america

the British from "near Warrington".

Well we think the young people are a bit naive, we support the war, have to do something. what about Tibet? I was in Baifra"

asked abuot the illegality, they replied that most of the UN Were despots.

British 70 plus.
"we support the war."
asked about the first aerial bombardment of a civilian city in 1938 [Barcelona] the woman assured me that British intervention restored the King's father to the throne.
None of her family have served in the armed forces.

British Londoners 3 women mid twenties.
"barcelona is different in London there would be bottles thrown and police wow.man different. yeh loads of people are against the war". One had attended Oxford st. last saturday. They were unaware of a boycott.

all tourists were asked if they felt more or less at risk from terrorist attack.
The British couple answered that living near Warrington they knew all about terrorism. When asked if they were aware of AlQaeda cells being broken with bacteriological strike capability they made reference to one million tibetans being killed by China.

The Londoners two of carribean and one of asian
ethnic origin commented that "they were used to threat and it was standard now".

French.
Three tourists regular visitors
age early forties
anti-Bush anti-War anti-Washington.
They "never buy american produce". When asked what tobacco they smoked one Gitannes one non smoker one Chesterfields.

Italian.
age late forties.
Milan first time visitors. Democracy "at risk", global movement like Vietnam. Petrol the reason. "civil disobedience a neccesity". They had not visited occupations in Milan against the war.

before this war began.
before we were forced to address our questions to tourists who fuel this economy it was noticed that the cost of War was equal to 20 times the cost of providing the children of this world with preventative vacines.

Preventative vacines can help young children fight infection and contagion such as are found in areas of poor water supply.
since this war began.
A city of 1.3million people has deprived of a clean water supply.
The armies of US/K supported by their mammy and daddy bears at great cost at loss of young American and British lives have ensured that young and old in Iraq are at risk of death.

I wish I wish I wish I was in Kansas.
take off your magic spectacles.

it did not start in Iraq
it will not end in Iraq
