Sligo Anti War Movement Day of Action March 22nd.

Resistance is not futile.

On Saturday 22nd of March, the Sligo Anti War Movement intend to have a rally on O'Connell St., Sligo to show that the people of Sligo are opposed to a war against Iraq. The event will be addressed by a number of, as yet unknown, speakers, as well a number of musicians who will try to make lots of noise. The intended action in the event of the war starting will also be outlined including the 10 minute work stoppage at midday on the day of the invasion, as well as the wearing of white armbands, to indicate the opinion of those who wear them is that war is unjustified, and peace must prevail. Flyers with the this information will be distributed during the St. Patricks day parade also. More details of this event will be posted on this site, as well as the local media, when it becomes available. Shalom.

United against Iraq war...

I came across this article while looking for references to white armbands as I run a site www.armsagainstwar.info that asks only that people wear a home-made white armband as a way of saying 'I object to the war in Iraq'

We started this in order to get a show of unity, to enable those who didn't know how to be active against this war, to have an easy, free way to make themselves heard and as a way of allowing all anti-war/peace groups and individuals to recognise eachother and show their vast numbers. The symbol is easy and free to everyone, instant and wearing it....not an arrestable offence as it says nothing with words.

I do hope that all of us who advocate this way of protesting can spread the message far and wide.
