Dúntar Egunkaria

An páipéar nuachtán Báscach EgunKaria dúnadh síos é agus tógadh bainisteoirí agus roinnt
oibrithe an pháipéar nuachtán ar maidin.
Níl anseo ach an céim is déanaí de pholasaí brú faoi an rialtas Spáinneach in éadan gach rud Báscach.

The newspaper EgunKaria was effectively closed down today due to the arrest of its editorial and managerial staff this morning.
This is just another step in the constant policy of repression waged by the Spanish government against all things Basque.

Basque paper closed down
by Gaixoa Thu, Feb 20 2003, 3:23pm
Euskaldunon Egunkaria has been suspended this morning.

Spain is again using all its power in service of fascism. After the paper "Egin" 5 years ago, "Euskaldunon Egunkaria" activities have been suspended this morning by the Spanish police.
Wich activities? Informing the Basque People in Basque...
The Basque Country is suffering and has been suffering from Spanish policies for centuries. Now, in the so-called post-franco democratic and modern Spain, we close down papers, a radio, a magazine, we torture people, kill them if necessary.
Egunkaria was the only daily paper published in Basque. It was a tool for the Basque speaking community.

It is time for the international community to solidarize with the Basque people, to condemn Spain and to support freedom of speech.
Thanks.
