NYC blocks march, Feb.15th (L. Neumeister, AP Writer)
United for Peace and Justice (UFP) Coalition has filed suit against the City of New York, declaring their right to free speech is being violated.
UFP has been planning a march on Feb.15, past United Nations Plaza through midtown Manhattan and ending with a rally at Central Park. According to the New York Civil Liberties Union, who represents UFP, NYC would not issue a permit for parade under any circumstances.
UFP objects on the grounds that NYC issues many parade permits, including for St. Patrick’s Day.
Speakers planned for the event include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Patti Smith and Martin Luther King, III.
