Shannon protestors let us all down agin
For the third time, the anit-war movement has been disgraced by criminal activity amongst its ranks. It is clear that these actions have damaged the image of the peace group. Brendan O'Connors article exposing the truth was bad enough, but this mornings actions were the last straw for most decent irish people.
I have just seen the news report on Fox News in the USA and it paints a really bad picture of Ireland. None of these scumbags seem to realise how damaging their actions are. First Dubsky, then Kelly, the question is who or what next?

They are letting no one down, they truly are the vanguard of the Anti War CampaignS.
I did a search of Fox News website and there is nothing on last nights action. The last time Shannon is mentioned is Jan 18th. Amanda, how do you know it was "criminal ". And why are you going on about Brendan O'Connor's "truth" ? Basically why is everyone getting so hot about him anyway ? He is employed to be controversial and wind people up just as Jonathon Philbin Bowman was. Just ignore him, or be calm for gods sake.
Same O'Conner who felt 18 yr old hippies from Reclaim the Streets got what they deserved from Gardai on May 6th last year?
Don't forget also that Mary Kelly "Peace Activist" has connections with murderous CIRA scumbags.
Scumbags? That's a bit strong. OK, not everyone agrees that direct action of this sort is the best way forward. But I think people need to get a grip of themselves.
We seem to be reaching a paradoxical situation where some people on the anti-war side are almost as incensed by the miniscule damage to US planes as they are by what the US has planned for Iraq.
Calling those who participated in today's activities "Scumbags" is just ridiculous.
Any damage caused can be repaired quickly - the consequences of this war are going to be so horrendous that in its aftermath the current quibbles about the correctness, or not, of this form of direct action will, I'm sure, seem almost obscene in their narrow-mindedness.
The plane damaged today will be flying in a few weeks time. There are possibly tens of thousands of Iraqis alive today who, in all likelihood, will be dead within the same space of time.
Just bear that in mind if you're going to use extreme perjorative terms to describe actions such as this mornings.
But we know that the connection simply involved a group in NYC deciding to give her an award which she did not canvas for and did not turn up to collect in person. You wouldn't be one of Willie's Doktors would you or a Mate of Ole BOC?
and it paints a really bad picture of America.
First off, I live in the states and can tell you that Fox News is pure crap. Anit-war activists in Ireland don't need to spend any time worrying about what they think.
Second, why should anyone be concerned about an action being legal or illegal? (Or how you might look to someone else - this isn't a fashion show after all.) It's about what is right and what is required to stand up to injustice. If the government were to make it "illegal" to publish a newspaper or web page would you just go along with that or would you fight back and break the law?
Lastly, I just wanted to say that there are many millions of people in the states that don't support this coming war in Iraq and our government's self-interested foreign policy. We stand in solidarity with peace activists in Ireland and all over the world.
Well at least the lady in shannon has more courage than the nutty groups such as the sp/swp who talk a lot but thats all.
Its the gombeen men such as bulldog Cowan and forgetful bertie who are letting us down as a once proud and neutral nation.
Amanda: First Dubsky, then Kelly, the question is who or what next?
Hundreds through the fence hopefully !
I don't know if you remember the last gulf war Amanda - but the only protests were a couple of tiny marches through Dublin - ia that a successful anti war movement ???
This time EVERYONE in the world knows whats going on in Shannon - everyone is debating it - thousands will march on Febrauary 14th - this is not a damaged anti war movement it is
a very healthy one - the direct action has contributed hugely !!
saw Fox News .......
