 'then a new priest came to our village', he was not like the others he said 'God does not like poverty and hunger'. He set up a cooperative and built a school for our children. Then the junta and soldiers came. This was the start of the struggle of the indigenous indian populations of Mexico and Guatelama. Junta backed state soldiers came and burnt to the ground chapels which gave refuge, and comfort to the poor mainly indigenous indian villagers. Whole villages were raised to the ground, and the indigenous indian villagers slaughtered. One such village was the village of Subcommandent marcos as he is now known. The film 'daughter of the puma' tells the story of the slaughter of the indigenous indian populations of mexico and Guatemala. Where the indigenous indian peasant population are treated like dirt, second class citizens, looked down upon, living lives of extreme hardship, forced to endure poverty, hunger, degradation and misery.
