Galway City Council adopts anti-war stance

Galway City Council last night unanimously passed an anti-war resolution, which was proposed by Alderman Catherine Connolly of Labour. The resolution was raised ‘in solidarity’ with Galway’s twin cities, Seattle and Chicage, both of whose councils have adopted anti-war positions. Alderman Connolly urged her colleagues to show leadership on the issue, “especially when Shannon is in the next county to us”. (The text of the resolution will be posted as a ‘comment’ to this when it becomes available)

The text of the Galway City Council resolution (derived from a model resolution circulating in the US) is as follows: "That in solidarity with our sister cities of Chicago and Seattle, this council condemns and deplores any pre-emptive and/or unilateral action by the US against Iraq, and demands that the arms inspectors be given sufficient time to complete their work and to furnish reports to the United Nations"
