Below you will find an Anti war motion for the unions and workers that's doing the rounds at the moment with a very good response so far. I hope you're all aware of this motion already. If not copy the motion below and urge your union through your branch to immediately pass this Anti war motion as a matter of grave urgency ASAP!
"That this branch/ADC is opposed to a US led attack on Iraq. We oppose the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein but believe that regime change is a task for the Iraqi people and not the US or UN . This branch/ADC agrees to:
(1) Publicly oppose the policy of the Irish Government of giving US warplanes access to Shannon to conduct a war on the people on Iraq.
(2) Support the ‘DON’T ATTACK IRAQ – US MILITARY OUT OF SHANNON’ national demonstration in Dublin on 15 February.
(3) Affiliate to the Irish Anti War Movement and to publicise and support their events.
(4) Have our union banner present at all future Irish Anti War Movement events starting with the national demonstration in Dublin on 15 February."

Jump To Comment: 1 2Galway branch of Mandate trade union have passed the IAWM Anti War Motion and will be supporting the national demo 15/2.
We are seeking affiliation of MANDATE to IAWM through our National Executive, and proposing that our national union banner be present at all future IAWM events, starting with demo in Dublin.
Galway Trades Council have also agreed to publicise and support IAWM and their events.
As you can see from the correspondence below I was able to get my union - the Civil and Public Service Union (CPSU) to back the February 15th demo and to have the CPSU banner present on the demo.

Hi Paul
I didn't get your e-mail until after the Executive Council yesterday(Thursday 30th).
As it happens the EC has decided to participate in the Protest on Feb 15th as part of the ICTU behind our own CPSU banner. The decision will be communicated to the members in the normal way. It was decided not to seperately affiliate to the IAWM as it was noted that the ICTU has affiliated and we are part of the ICTU.
The January National Executive meeting was held today and finished around 4.30pm. The normal procedure would be that if you wish to put a motion to the National Executive it would be agreed at and go via your National or Branch Committee.
The motion of support from the CPSU for the national demonstration on 15th February was passed at the Executive today. A circular will issue notifying members of same over the coming days and our banner will be available for use in the demonstration.
Can I also add even at this late the following extra point below that wasn't discussed at the CPSU National Executive meeting last week, but which I think that all trade unionists should put pressure on their unions to mobilise for to screw up the war machine.
"(5) In the event of war breaking out that this Branch/National Committee organises an immediate work stoppage and to assemble outside the US embassy in Ballsbridge at 6pm on the day war starts or at 6pm the following day if war starts at night."
