This is the same site that's been up since last year, with some new news stories etc.

Just trying to get some publicity?

And the site's still blighted with ads, especially of the pop up variety. Very much in accordance with your principles.

Unfortunately "free" web space tends to come with ads. It's a pain in the arse, and cjb.net sites seem to get a particularly obnoxious brand of pop-up. Do you have another suggestion?

Hi Brian -

Possibly a two step solution - if SYUCD can put their basic site on the UCD shared societies webspace rather than Geocities (which gets rid of the on-page ads) and then use a URL redirect service such as www.v3.com, which gives you a whole range of names such as get.to/socialism, for example - lots of choice normally - then fill out a form and pick from different options such as Pop up ad, or Ad in Frame, or Delayed Ad. If that's still not suitable, try get some funding and register a domain name - use www.mydomain.com (which i've found very reliable and, more importantly, free) to "bounce" the domain name to the actual location of the pages. Mydomain.com will also allow multiple email addresses at your chosen domain name - I use it for Trinity FM and have addresses for certain people who do shows for us - if you email daithi@trinityfm.com - it's forwarded to me, and so on.

Any use?

I'm not actually a member of UCD Socialist Youth, I was just curious. A whole load of Irish left sites seem to be hosted on cjb.net and all of them have the same pop-up problem. Socialist Youth, SY UCD, GR and some SWP ones too. I'll pass on your advice to the SYUCD people though.

THe site has been up for a few months, but we are always adding to it. It is the first timeI advertised it on this site. Unfortuanatly adds do come up but there is little I can do about it. I amhowever looking into putting on the UCD server which may solve the problem.
