1,000+ gather to protest at Shannon Airport

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday January 18, 2003 17:09author by Eoin Dubsky - Refueling Peaceauthor email info at refuelingpeace dot org

Over a thousand people gathered today from around the island of Ireland to witness against the US war machine as it passes through Ireland at Shannon Airport. Seen at the demonstration were T.D.s from the Green Party, Sinn Fein, the Socialists, and the Labour.

Just as the demonstration began, protesters witnessed an Afghanistan-registered cargo aircraft with an American flag on the tail landing at the airport. Irish authorities continue to provide overflight and refueling assistance to these clandestine US military flights (see http://www.indymedia.ie/cgi-bin/newswire.cgi?id=23883).

A member of the Socialist Party did a head count during the march and at least 2,900 were on the demo

How do you know that the Socialist Party can count?

Eoin writes that there were TDs from "the Socialists". I think you will find that Joe Higgins is a TD for the Socialist Party, the irish section of the Committee for a Workers' International.

The TDs only have something to go to because everyone else went down there. Stop over emphasizing the attendance of some unimportant knob ends.

OK, can you please take that poker out of your ass and do something constructive with it? You should be happy that the SP is seen as THE "socialists". No-one is caught up in their own importance enough to want to have their party referred to as "the Irish section of the Socialist International" (labour) or "the Irish section of the International Socialists" (swp)...quit being so fucking arrogant, it's not very revolutionary.

"ok", what the hell have you ever done to oppose the war? you have some cheek to be coming on here to correct eoin d., while he's on trial for direct action (and trying to get a challenge in the courts in dublin) you're too concerned with getting the title of your precious little party correct.
