US Troops using hotels around Shaanon

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday January 13, 2003 20:02author by doheochai - Socialist Party

It has been reported that large numbers of US troops have been staying in hotels in the Limerick/ Shaanon region. Apparently as a result of the breakdown of one of the transport planes up to 350 troops were driven by bus to various hotels in the region. One wonders after all the talk about the Duty Free shop in Shannon Airport being international soil, how the establishment will explain this one away.

If the duty-free area is international soil, I presume that the Gardai (and Irish army) have no jurisdiction there and that anything occurring there would not be subject to Irish law. In that case, any demonstration occurring there would presumably not be subject to regulation by the Gardai.

mind you, they could have been disgused as sheep or rich golfers... or maybe honing their close combat skills in the slaughterhouse (y'know for when they invade baghdad)
