SF IMC Interviews Al Giordano on Venezuela, the media, and anarchism

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday December 21, 2002 14:42author by blisset

This is a great interview on Chavez/Coups etc with Narconews Publisher Al G.

: I think the post by these so-called "anarchists," and their timing, is a cowardly act of aggression against the progress of all Latin American social movements right now. If Venezuela falls to a U.S. coup, it's going to turn the clock back 30 years in the entire hemisphere. We'll be right back in Santiago de Chile, September 11, 1973. Pinochet rounded up and shot all the anarchists, too, you know. Remember that the Chile coup led to Operation Condor and military dictatorship terror in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, and Bolivia among other places. The cancer spread all the way to Mexico. THAT is what is being attempted right now. The people whining about Chávez today are like those who whined about Allende in the early 70s . . . he wasn't politically perfect enough for them. Well, look what they got.

No trifling with the need to support yhe democratically obtained revoultion in Venezula. The 'anachrists' on this board will all be 'well that was a stage I was going through' in a few years time while the poor of South America contiune to suffer.

perhaps you could say
which anarchist groupings have inteferred with your project?
perhaps you could give us weblinks?
perhaps you could give us a quotes?
perhaps you could properly explain your project?

are you Bolivarian socialists?
are you centralised Marxist Leninists?
are you involved in the million politically undefined multitutes daily walking Venezuealan streets?
are you involved in the monitoring of the Venezuelan state Oil industry?
are you invovled in the setting up of community networks to plan response to any tragedy that might unfold such as Argentina last year?
or are you just a "red flag flying" observer from far far away on the western fringe of the U.S.?

Anarchist groupings in Venezuela have been active all through this period of uncertainty, they have continued to offer information flow from a range of sources.
They have even joined the "red flasg flying" to protect globavision TV from attack.

¿To protect globavision TV from attack?
----is that part of your project?
----is that part of the anarchist´s project?
¿do you understand what is happening outside of critical materialist dialectical analysis with in one economic state entity subjected to extrao-rdinary extra-state pressure?

We know about Pinochet.
thank you for reminding us.
we learn and do it better every time.
which we is why we are attempting to navigate people in far off places through the dis-information.
Anarchists, Greens and Socialists are working together in Venezuela.
The people of Venezuela are being prepared so that any potential collapse of their economy will not cause the amount of deaths that the Argentine collapse one year ago did.

These are questions as much for ireland as for San Francisco indymedia.
¿could there possibly be answers?
for without those this post only adds to disinformation.
surely not the intention.

this article is a must read!!!
go read this interview!!!
spend well fed christmas reading this interview!!

anarchists are very easy to attack.
one anarchist can not say another who calls himself / herself an anarchist is not.

there are those with very little wit and humanity attempting to use the current situation in Ven.
and there is a alliance of red, black, green and white there.
=don´t take sides against your own.

Is that he tries to reduce things down to the question, "Are we for the coup d'etat or not?" He's trying to force a binary choice on the situation, but its not that simple. You could ask the same about Iraq - do you support Saddam or the US invasion? , Cuba - do you support Castro, or do you want the US to go in? , soviet Russia - do you support Lenin's dictatorship, or do you want to see capitalism restored?

The anarchist post he's criticising said they were trying to 'steer a course between two fires'. Giordano's answer is that you're either with Chavez or against him. I've heard that line before...
