Is my landlord registered?
Any properties for rent are required by law to be registered with the local authority. There are some exceptions including: holiday lets; where the landlord and tenant are related; where the landlord is resident and there is no more than one other flat on the premises. To check is your landlord registered, ring your local quthority and ask to be put through to the Register of Private Rented Dwellings. For further information contact Threshold or your local authority. Landlords who fail to register are liable to prosecution.
