March to celebrate peace from Tullyvaragh to Terminal
PRESS RELEASE: For further information contact Tim Hourigan 086-3784780
PEACE ACTIVISTS from around Ireland will converge on Shannon town this Sunday at 11pm at Tullyvaragh Hall. They will march through the town to the airport in protest at the continued use of the airport by the US military.
The march is expected to consist of hundreds of mothers, fathers, children, and other concerned citizens. It is planned to have street theatre celebrating peace and neutrality.
"This airport has become a low-budget airbase for the US military who have killed thousands of Afghan civilians" said one peace activist. "We have to show the US military, and our own Government that we do not condone this killing machine using our airspace".
The demo co-incides with the December 8th deadline for Iraq to declare any weapons of mass destruction, and the protestors fear that Shannon will be used in a new war with Iraq.
