I would encourage as many people as possible to try to get to both anti-war events that weekend, Dublin march on 7th, Shannon on 8th) despite the obvious time and distance constraints. They don't have to be mutually exclusive for any other reason, and 2 well attended anti-war events the one weekend could expedientally increase the chances of the anti-war debate becoming the only war-related thing to take off in this country.

Why are they not involved?
Do they see the US soldiers as 'Workers in Uniform'?

The Cork Peace Alliance is running a bus to the Shannon Demo on Saturday 8th December.

The bus departs from outside Cork Opera House, Emmet Place at 10.30am.

Sorry, the Cork Bus departs at 10am, not 10.30. Be there on time to ensure your seat!

Why have the IAWM not advertised the demo in Shannon also on their posters like many other organisations have done?

author by Grassroots demopublication date Fri Nov 29, 2002 17:25author address author phone

Lads,
I think that this discussion is not that useful.
IAWM are free to do what they want and please go to the demo in Dublin if you can and if you like that kind of set up. But I, for one, would not be happy to have politicians parachuted to Shannon to preach at us, stewards with megaphones to tell us what to chant, etc.

Have we asked some awkward questions or something.

What are the SP doing about Shannon?

The SP has been are are actively involved in the campaign over Shannon, as those involved would know well. We have been active participants in the demos and have been far more active in the region than most other political groups. With the Greens we have been making most of the running on this issue, including the initiation of an anti-war campaignin the Mid-West.
Other groups, like SF and the SWP have been conspicuous by their absence in this region.

I am really getting fed up to the teeth of answering this "sectarian" shite. This board is rapidly deteriorating into a nasty mud-slinging mess. Unless it is sorted out soon, it will render indymedia useless. I for one will not waste my time on it.

Good, don't waste your time on indymedia, write for the left papers nobody reads and leave us alone.

author by pat cpublication date Mon Dec 02, 2002 12:20author address author phone

the sp as a party & thru youth against war are involved in campaigning.

however the mud-slinging is also coming from the sp. for the past month, practically every republican article has been attacked by the sp. republican socialists have been called nationalists, catholic nationalists & fascists. sp members have suggested sf is not anti war due to fund raising in the US.

given this, the sp should not be surprised when people retaliate.

Contact the Anarcho-Syndicalist Federation in Belfast at :

to find out about transport to Shannon. Some of the members of that organisation are looking into numbers etc.

It'll cost you about a tenner, and will probably leave about 6 on Saturday night. If you can't get through on the mobile number, try 028 90 806 919.
