Many Thanks to the Socialist Party

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday November 15, 2002 22:38author by Col Chombley Smythe Farragh Forcetby DCO Bar - British Army

I wish to heartily thank the Socialist Party in Belfast for making possible our recruitment stand in Queens University. It isn't often we have such co-operation from the civilian population. But with ops hotting up in fuzzy-wuzzy-land we need all the strapping lads we can get. With a bit of luck we'll all be home for Christmas. I remember my grandfather Brigadeer "Potty" Smythe telling me how grateful he was to Mr Redmond for the help in the 1914 spat (and of course Labour too). Nice to know some things don't change. Please renew our regimental subscription to The Voice and sincere thanks

I am dealing with this whole QUB situation once and for all.

It is not SP policy to support the British Army or any imperialist army.

If any member in QUB did support the Army stand he is going against the party's position. We oppose the British Army on a socialist basis not the sectarian way in which SF deal with it.

I am sure everyone on indymedia could get examples of individual members of different parties going against the parties positions. But we are not childish and don't go around posting it all over the place saying the party in question have sold out or betrayed people etc.

You still have not answered the question, if the member of the SP in QUB supported the british army stand which is against party policy, what action (if any) is going to be taken against him?

Do you really think the SP are going to waste their time answering sectarian swipes from a bunch of wasters.

The SP and the SWP regularily make 'mistakes' it flows from their nutty brands of trotskist dogma. They really believe that they are the revolutionary vanguards! They have fairy tale notions about all workers coming together under their brand of 'socialism', examples are Isreali and Palestinian workers and Nationalist and Unionist workers in the northern part of this country also. Trying to tell them that this is naive, simplistic and just stupid is the same as trying to tell a christian minister or priest that their dogma makes no sense.

Leaving aside the "contributions" from cretins, I note that Finghin has not answered my question. I certainly would have respect for Joe Higgins and the SP, but I find the idea of a member of a left wing party displaying support for an imperialist army staggering!!!!

I think I have answered everyones question regarding the whole QUB situation. It is also on another thread you might want to look there.

I don't know what 'action would be taken against him'. What do you recommend a punishment beating prehaps?

It's alright then for a member of the SP to support the British Army recruiting? Is that what you're saying? No action should be taken, eh? What does a senior member of the SP have to do to be subject to disciplinary action then?

author by Philpublication date Sun Nov 17, 2002 18:32author address author phone

Of course the British Army should be allowed to recruit, it's a free country, if you don't like it tough shit. Noone stop all your batty outfits recruiting.

author by Finghinpublication date Sun Nov 17, 2002 22:11author address author phone

First of all it is not ok for a member of the SP to support a capitalist army recruiting. It would be dealt with properly within the party.

Secondly he is not a 'senior' member of the party. Andy Ward is not a member of any of the national bodies of the SP.

he will have to go along with the democractically decided party position, if not he must resign.

The left has better things to do than fight amongst each other.
