An open conference of socialist ideas
A major conference on anti-capitalist ideas takes place in Dublin on November 22nd to 24th in Trinity College Dublin.
A major conference on anti-capitalist ideas takes place in Dublin on November 22nd to 24th in Trinity College Dublin.
Entitled Marxism 2002, it brings together a wide range of international speakers who have advanced a critical response to globalisation.
They include:
* Professor Mike Davis, the author of City of Quartz and Prisoners of the American Dream, who will discuss the growing anti-war movement in America.
· Francois Duval, the General Secretary of the Ligue Communiste Revolutionarie in France, who will speak on socialist planning. The LCR won 4 percent vote in the recent Presidential elections.
· Brian Kelly, a History lecturer in Queen’s University who recently won the Isaac Deutscher book prize who will talk on the origins of Zionism.
· Luke Choto, a socialist from Zimabwe who has been active in the Movement for Democratic Change. He will speak on Africa, development and Socialism.
· A representative of the Refundazione Communista, Italy who were prominent in organising the European Social Forum in Florence.
One of the organisers of the event, Kieran Allen said,
“ There is a huge radicalisation underway at the moment. There is a thirst for radical ideas that has not been seen since the sixties.
We expect hundreds of activists to attend Marxism 02 which will the biggest left wing event in Ireland. The event has built up a reputation for lively debate and discussion”
It will show that another world is possible.
