Anti-war activist summoned
Man in court for airplane damage
November 14, 2002
(16:40) A 22 year old man has appeared at a special sitting of Ennis District court on foot of a bench warrent after he failed to turn up at the District court in Shannon earlier.
Eoin Dubsky of Whitewalls, Ballymoney in Co Wexford, is charged with causing criminal damage to a US Hercules miltary aircraft by painting anti war slogans on it at Shannon airport on 4 September.
He was further charged today with climbing the perimeter fence at Shannon contrary to the airport by-laws.
A bench warrent had been issued for him when he had not turned up at the court in Shannon by the close of proceedings at 2pm.
However he turned up later and was brought before Ennis district court. He apologised to the court for the inconvenience but said he had to get two buses from his home: one was delayed and he missed the second.
He was remanded on continuing bail to appear at Tulla district court on 18 December. The court was told the charges are being contested and the hearing will involve over 14 witnesses, including an expert witness from the United States.
