INFORMATION IN THE WRONG HANDS
As a concerned member of Gluaiseacht, I have seen no evidence by the organisation to alert people that their details are in the hands of the UK police.
A very stupid act of carelessness by a particular member, has led to the Ecotopia contacts being photocopied by the police at Holyhead last month.
Anyone who attended Ecotopia in August and gave their personal details to register,be aware. If you gave Gluaiseacht permission to keep your details,it is likely they are in police hands.
If you marked the box to have your registration form destroyed, I would advise you find out the means by which this was done.
1. To find out if your registration details were properly disposed of under the Freedom of Information Act
Or
2. To find out whether your details were taken to the UK and photocopied and now kept on record by the UK police
Or
3. To determine what actions of protest or action is being taken to get the information back

In many other countries you are very well informed (by your, emm..'comrades'(!)..)about possible misuse of any personal items u may carry by the police. For example, leave yer address books behind - FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!!! Everyone attending such and similar events in future should be informed of similar threats. I am still surprised by the level of naivety which exists here regarding the cops.
will be left on Indymedia Ireland
after the referendum
along with
other pamphlets.
heart and mind
feel = think.
You see... told you so... these anarchist can't be trusted with sensitive information. All they ever do is hinder the revolution.
Even the SWP wouldn't do anything so fucking stupid.
If u's have nothing to hide u's will be ok you fools. I think the cops have better things to be doing. I don t really think the give a shit about a few students.
FOOLS &&& Fools FOOLS &&& Fools FOOLS
I know some of the people involved in the organisation, they are principled, sincere and well intentioned BUT they can also at times, be rather naive. Anyone who thinks that our "free society" is all that free has got problems.

I could point to examples to disprove your point, but I'll spare the blushes of those concerned...
I was involved in ecotopia through gluaiseacht and was also one of the people who went to england last month. The ecotopia contact details were brought nowhere near england, no-one in gluaiseacht brought this matter to mine or any other persons attention. There was a personal contact list carried by one person who was stopped in holyhead, as well as a list of some people who had previously travelled to sellafield (all of whom had been stopped and searched themselves when they crossed into the UK).
The anonymous posting nature of this newswire could allow for unscrupulous parties to spread slander and mis-information, personally I never trust anything on the wire unless I know the poster and can verify it with them. Certain events within the last week indicate that someone with limited technical skills may be trying to smear gluaiseacht using electronic means.
Finally, for the reference of the poster, there are no 'members' of gluaiseacht, there is no 'organisation' and the secretariats purpose is as a point of contact. Perhaps "Concerned" could attend the next gluaiseacht meeting (in sligo at the end of november), take part in developing the structure of the network and help dispel some of our naievety by sharing skills and knowledge in the spirit which gluaiseacht was formed.
I would like to verify some of what Barry has said. The details given by people who pre-registered for ecotopia were not brought to England. I was part of a team of people involved in the registration process and also one of only a very few who had and have access to these details. If any individual has any further concerns please feel free to contact the us at "secretariat@gluaiseacht.org".
What was brought to England was a list of names of people, no addresses, no passport details, no dates of births, no personal details.
for a moment someone was raising irish memories of the Winchester 3: and teasing students.
Disinformation is a neccesary price for dis-organisations. But Barry and Clare have cleared it all up for you. I thought yesterday when I first saw the post that this was a crass message equiv to "check the xerox bin lads". No-one ought be discouraged by this type of thing. and scaremongering in the name of "concerned" is always dodgey. as any editor will know, no?
but for the last days before the referendum in Ireland set against the machinations up north we can all expect to read lots and lots of silly disinformation. We read it most of the time. And may I just add that the "Cardov" has just set sail from Barcelona travelling due SSE and in two days will intercept the NATO western mediterranean fleet who have just completed joint exercises off the coast of Sardinia. I lived in Sardinia and can happily tell you that this fleet is very very big. So one red block sailing vessel and one very very big fleet. That should make for interesting viewing eh? It is rumoured that the French take an interest in observing NATO exercises.
on doit aller au délà de soi même.
