it's also a good idea to call every single radio station and chat show and put across the view of the protesters, who are opposing an oil war in Iraq and the economic terrorism of the IMF and World Bank.

Local radio stations are especially interested if you put across a local spin to it... ie. 'I was in Genoa', 'my friend is in Washington' etc.

Vital also that the word 'riot' doesn't get misused... from the report I have had this morning, the police are engaging in unprovoked attacks on peaceful protesters. There is a black-bloc with Police infiltrators.

It could be a horrible day.

Joseph Mayer, 69, a retired Lt. Col. in the US Army, who lives in Alexandria and works in the District approached the police line at the corner of 15th and Pennsylvania. "Why can't I leave? I'm just trying to cross the street." Mayer, pointing to a long line of police, said "They closed Freedom Plaza and turned it into a non-Freedom Plaza. They have turned the Constitution off."

"If I take this button off," he said, thrusting forward his Don't Attack Iraq button. "I'm free again. When I'm a protester, I'm detained."
