McCreevy must go

Leaked memo shows the true extent of Fianna Fail's deceit

It never fails to amuse me that when an issue of genuine interest in Irish politics arises, the silence from Indymedia is deafening. While we have countless postings about a party in town on Sunday and a few rants against Sharon and Israel, no one has mentioned the fact that the government have been exposed for lying, and are facing the biggest crisis of their term.
Yesterday, the Sunday Tribune published a leaked memo from the Department of Finance informing government ministers that there will be E900m in cuts next year. Not only is this a revelation in itself, but the memo was written just after the election. Therefore, when McCreevy and Ahern were telling the electorate that there would be no cuts, McCreevy's department were adding up exactly how much will have to be cut. The result is 900 million Euro. 101 million off Social Welfare, 160 off education and 120 off the environment (this figures may be a bit off, I can't remember the exact figures but they are something like this).
Why does no one on Indymedia care? Is it just that whenever a subject slightly more complicated than "cars = bad" arises, no one bothers reading it? This is really important. They lied to the entire electorate just before the election and now they are going to slash public funding to the areas which effect the most vulnerable people in our society (the sick, poor and young). Wake up Indymedia.

Wake up (Bill) Clinton, a majority of the people who voted supported the current government. Something that does not exactly thrill me, but it's the harsh reality. The cuts directed to a large extent against the weakest sections of society are not surprising or at least should not be. It's a reflection of our law of the jungle system, which is supported by large sections of the population.

I thought the point of indymedia was a place to put stories that the mainstream neglected to cover?
McCreevy has (thankfully) been all over the corporate news already. No point giving grief to IMC for not having it. Besides it's open publishing. So you put it there didn't you,,, so it's there...

yes McCreevy should go, and so should Bertie.
it amazes me people re-elected him.

"We'll have a referendum on PfP" --- lie
"There'll be not cuts" ---lie
"I'm a democrat and I accept the vote of the people" -- lie.

It's not IMC that needs to wake up...

Do you want your money back?

You arent dealing with a company here.
People are free to talk about what they want or not to.

Im glad to see that you have started a thread on the subject and I agree that it is important but i do want to clarify that indymedia isnt a bunch of people in an office somewhere deciding what to write about.

What it is though are individuals who want to express an opinion or inform the public on an issue.

the way you phrase your point is as if you "blame this media", and Im glad you have taken it upon yourself to "be the media" and raise the issue to get the chat going

I think the scales have taken a definite tip toward the NO vote

no we wont be bullied
no we dont trust what the government wants us to think
no we dont want corporations taking over every aspect of our lives and turning everything into products to sell, low quality ones linked to expensive advertising
patenting nature and selling it back to us for whatever price it wants

WE WANT DIVERSITY NOT BORING HOMOGENITY AND BRAINWASHING AND ENSLAVEMENT

no doubt McCreevy is off to get a job with enron or worldcom
or to set up "the college of creative accounting and bakin of d'books",
after he has had a pint with Charlie Haughey that is

Didnt Haughey look fit and well in the photos of him down in Dingle at the regata this summer - strange how he made such a quick recovery?
