Chainsaws today at Carrickmines

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday September 23, 2002 12:55author by Eannaauthor address Bandon

3 activists defend heritage site

This morning 3 workmen turned up at the Carrickmines Castle site to cut down more trees. This follows saturdays felling when the small number of activists were unable to prevent incursions onto the site.

Transport Minister Brennan has given the green light to Heritage Destruction at Carrickmines. This morning 3, and only 3, activists are trying to prevent workmen with chainsaws from cutting down trees. The tree clearance is part of preparation works on site to facilitate the laying of an autobahn over an important Heritage site.
This is a call to all who have concerns about Carrickmines to go to the site today and help the 3 activists prevent the felling of trees.
Carrickmines is easily accessible to all who live in the greater Dublin area, particularly whose who live on the Southside or the city centre.

Hi there,

I've been trying to get out to Carrickmines for the last few days to help as I'm available to help, but I've been unable to make contact on the 086 2866631 number.

Just need to know how close the #36 bus takes you to Carrickmines and what materials/equipment are needed?

Cheers,
r

its the no. 63 actually, leaves from fleet street every hour or so. (It's not too far from the stillorgan dual carrigeway so it's walkable from other busses too). Ask the driver, he'll tell u where to get off. The bus stop is right next to the site.
