Irish ALF liberate pheasants

Last Sunday, the 1st of September, a cell of the Irish Animal Liberation Front successfully entered the game holding pens within Castlemorris Woods in County Kilkenny,Ireland, and subsequently took nine pheasants to be released to a safe location where they can live out their full lives.

Responsibility is also claimed by the ALF for a further amount of pheasants which were freed from the enclosure via a large hole cut in the wire fencing. The initials ALF were spray-painted nearby.

The majority of these defenseless birds were bought in as 'poults' by gun clubs and forest management who organise shoots in the area and these are then reared on to maturity in readiness for the next shooting season starting in October. These birds are kept to supply trigger happy shooters who blast them from the sky. Depite being kept in quite large pens, the birds suffer from overcrowding which leads to a range of fatal diseases such as Hexamatiasis and Gapes. On the day of the shoot 'beaters'(men waving sticks to force the birds towards the guns and into the sky) are employed to ensure as many birds as possible die, most don't die outright but are clubbed to death or die from neck-twisting. Some shooters have slaughtered up to 200 birds in a single days outing.

This latest action marks the start of a new offensive against blood "sport" enthusiasts. The ALF will do what is necessary to liberate animals bred to die.
