Stunned.org trying to shame Arts Council into preserving ten years of Online Art at Arthouse

Article from Stunned.org weblog

The last hurrah of the Arthouse closure took place over the weekend with the auction of the buildings contents. I didn't attend but by all accounts it was pretty crazy. Among the contents were the servers which hosted the website which contained the results of years worht of artists' residencies and Arthouse assisted projects. We wouldn't throw paintings in a skip so why is deleting digital art OK? Call me a pessimist but I saw this coming and took the precaution of downloading the site to save this work and to keep this important record of digital art practise in Ireland available as a resource for all. I see this as a temporary measure until a more permanent solution can be found, it was a rush job so please forgive any glitches.

On Saturday 24th August 2002 the Arthouse Servers went down after ten years. Those servers contained art made during Arthouse residencies, some of which only existed on the Arthouse site. At Stunned we feared this might happen so we took the precaution of downloading the Arthouse site to save this work and to keep this important record of digital art practise in Ireland available as a resource for all.

We see this as a temporary measure until a more permanant solution can be found. Only the artistic programme archive is available.

This was a rush job so please forgive any glitches.

Mind You Arthouse was very very slipshod in many ways. I have been told that people who did courses there never recieved their promised certificates!

THE DUBLIN/IRISH DIGITAL ARTISTIC COMMUNITY WILL NOT MISS THE MULTI MILLION POUND SHAM...

Arthouse was no friend to the digital student artist, cost millions, and served but a few arseholes.
Arthouse billed as Irelands/Templebars modern artistic showpeice end up being just another internet cafe.
Despite getting £$£$£$£$£ in grants they still charged poor students $$£$£ for classes that were only a few houres a week.
The Celtic Tiger Is Dead
ArtHouse a blot on the Digital Artistic Landscape is gone, good.
