General election Ireland begining 2018.

Will the next General election feature many new candidates.
Will they make much of a difference or will many be elected?
What formula should people use to vote i.e 1 to 5 even if it is the least bad of a bad lot?

It now seems that a general election will happen in Ireland at the start of 2018.

For the Taoiseach it may make sense in a number of ways. (a) F.F were not expecting it.
(b) He is not long enough in office to become personally very unpopular apart from those of us who
never liked him to begin with. (c) It will be out of the way before the referendum in June.
(d) It will leave the establishment off the hook viz a viz the standstill in the north allowing them to be
completely inactive on the subject.

However as regards those of us who could be said to be broad left progressive anti- imperalist etc:
Will there be many new candidates going forward (there may be a big disadvantage of having to begin the groundwork
of a campaign this late in the day)?
Will such candidates make much of a difference with turn out likely to be low in less priveleged areas and higher in better off areas.
Taking regional variations into account the relative ages of voters in different locations around the country different education backrounds etc; and with the difficulty of predicting transfers quotas etc how many would likely be elected.
Who would deserve tactical votes or preferences etc from S.F Green Soc Democrats Independent left (Daly , Broughan etc)

Answer on a post card please!
