[Dublin] Boycott Israeli Goods – Rally, March & Die-Ins (IPSC)

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Thursday August 14, 2014 22:56author by IPSC - IPSC

As Israel appears to be winding down – at least temporarily – its slaughter, and Gaza starts to disappear from the news, we believe it is important that we not allow the issue of Palestine to slip off the public radar. Now is the time to reinforce one of the key demands of the Palestinian liberation movement – “Boycott Israeli Goods”.

The untold sacrifices of the people of Gaza have given us an opportunity to grow the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign in this country. The time to act is now. We must seize this moment to build the biggest possible movement we can for freedom, justice and equality in the Palestine-Israel region!

Therefore we ask you to join with us in a march to promote this message to Saturday shoppers in Ireland’s capital. We will gather this Saturday 16th August at 2pm at the Spire, and from there set out and march through some of Dublin’s shopping thoroughfares, stopping occasionally to stage a ‘die-in’ and address shoppers.

Please bring friends, flags, banners, noise. We would ask that you do not bring party-political flags (ie, flags of either Irish, Palestinian or other political parties or organisations).

Undoubtedly some people will ask “why are we not going to the Israeli Embassy again?" To briefly explain: The aim of this action is outreach to shoppers, many of whom are still outraged by what they witnessed over five weeks in Gaza but who may not even be aware of the Boycott Israeli Goods campaign. We want to engage with people, give them information about the boycott campaign, which is a vitally important part of the role we in Ireland can play in solidarity with the Palestinian people. As with South Africa before it, boycotting Israel will help to isolate it and force it to end it’s apartheid regime and serial human right and international law violations. The only way to build the boycott movement is for us to engage with the public, and specifically shoppers.
