category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Thursday July 03, 2014 12:10author by Anti-Imperialist Front Ireland Report this post to the editors

The people of the Ukraine are engaged in a titanic struggle against Fascism. Are you really going to let them stand alone?

The situation in the Ukraine is grave. Following a coup d’état, a junta of oligarchs and fascists, backed by the western powers, has seized control in Kiev. Since coming to power this junta have begun using open warfare in a campaign of terror, targeting men women and children in a bloody series of massacres. This ongoing campaign included the infamous mass murder of innocent citizens and trade unionists, during an all-out attack on the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, on May 2nd.

The Ukrainian Army and neo-Nazi paramilitaries are being used to crush all resistance to the junta, particularly from the civilian population in eastern Ukraine. Combined with this, the junta are moving to silence all opposition, by threatening to ban progressive and democratic organisations including the Communist Party of Ukraine and the socialist Borotba Union. These actions are aimed at opening the resource rich region to the interest of, and for exploitation by, the imperialist powers.

Fascism is on the rise in Europe- It’s time to act!

The actions of the Western powers and their open use of, and cooperation with Fascism, must be opposed by all democratic and progressive thinking people. To this end, a campaign in solidarity with the anti-fascist resistance in the Ukraine (SARU) has been established in Dublin. The organising committee consists of anti- fascists, socialists, republicans, trade unionists, democrats, human rights advocates and anti-war activists. People genuinely concerned by the rise of fascism in Europe. The campaign is calling for an end to the war and for real international solidarity with the people of the Ukraine in their fight against Fascism.

The campaign will be launched at a public meeting at 2pm on Saturday July 5 in Connolly Books, where an update on the current situation in Ukraine will also be provided.
