Picket out of the Dáil in Kildare Street, on June 5th at 17:00
Support the rural communities right to land and water in Colombia; say NO to the EU-Colombia Free Trae Agreement
On June 5th, to mark the World Environment Day, communities in the Colombian regions of Tolima, Narino, Boyacá, Quindío, Huila and Norte Santander, will demonstrate in defence of water, life and the moorlands, threatened by mega-mining projects on water sources. This will be the VI Carnival-Demonstration to affirm their commitment to life above the narrow economic interests of foreign multinationals.
They will demand that mega-mining is suspended and that any form of mining in strategic ecological locations where there are water sources is suspended, together with respect to local communities who deserve a say in the model of development currently imposed on them.
In Dublin we will demonstrate again in support of the communities and of their right to food sovereignty, water and clean air. This demonstration of solidarity becomes more urgent at a time in which Ireland’s parliament (dáil) will have to vote on a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Colombia which threatens to further damage the rural communities. There will be a child friendly picket out of the Dáil in Kildare Street, on June 5th at 17:00. You are all welcome.
