40th Anniversary of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings - public events in Dublin

Commemorative public events to show solidarity with the victims and survivors of the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings

Next Saturday in Dublin there are a couple of commemorative public events taken place on the anniversary of the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

11.30 am Wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial, Talbot Street

Wreaths will be laid by An Taoiseach, Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Town Council & Justice for the Forgotten;

Author and historian, Tim Pat Coogan, will deliver the oration;

Music and song will be provided by Cormac Breatnach, whistle-player; Ciaran Warfield and Ceól Clan; Emer Fox.

12.45 pm 40th anniversary Mass in St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral

The Chief Celebrant will be Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin;

Music will be provide by the Pro-Nuova Music Group and Pat Phelan (brother of Marie, killed in Talbot Street) will sing There is a Place by Fr. Liam Lawton;

Family members and survivors will participate.

In the background of the Parnell Street image you can see the outline of the Eircom offices of today which I believe were at the time the Posts and Telegraphs office, run under the Ministry of Conor Cruise O'Brien in the 1973–77 Labour / Fine Gael coalition under Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave.
