The tour will be conducted by one of Dublin's finest tour guides, Donal Fallon, who is one of the trio behind the marvellous Come Here To Me website and author of soon to be published book on Nelson's Pillar.

This tour will examine many aspects of the past of Dublin 7, from the social history of the area to its turbulent political past. Subjects that will be discussed include 'faction fighting' in the eighteenth century city, when working class gangs from the Smithfield and Liberties areas clashed regularly and violently, to the role of Smithfield in international cinema history, beyond its famous outing in ‘The Spy Who Came In From The Cold’!

Some of the characters we will encounter on this tour are famous, others infamous, but many have been almost totally forgotten. The tour will highlight things that are often overlooked in the urban landscape of the Dublin 7 area, and highlight the rich variety of history within the area.

About the tour guide
Donal Fallon is a historian of Dublin and teaches the course 'Hidden Dublin: From the Monto to Little Jerusalem' with the Adult Education Department of UCD. He is one of the trio behind the history website Come Here To Me.
