Case against Rory Hearne, SWP member and anti-capitalist activist thrown out of court:
Anti capitalist posse party hard for victory!
Rory Hearne was arrested at a Globalise Resistance protest against the privatisation of public services at the Burlington Hotel on the 10th October 2001.
The case against Rory Hearne has been dismissed because the police could not provide evidence that he had committed an offence. He was targeted for arrest simply because he was the chair of the protest and a spokesperson for Globalise Resistance.
In a statement Rory Hearne said, "This was an explicit attempt by the establishment to clamp down on the right to protest. We now call for all the charges against the other 13 defendants arrested at the Burlington protest and the charges against anti war activists to be dropped. Recent events surrounding Martin Ferris are also cause for alarm for those concerned with civil liberties. Globalise Resistance will continue to protest against any attempt to sell off our services and fight for a world where people come before profits".
